Sn'oh!

(pronounced d'oh!)

superboots

Not even Superboots could save the Subie from it's high-centered snowbound backyard fate.

the yard

Essentially I drove on to an ice/snow sheet that supports the undercarriage of the vehicle completely.

snowpack

I dug out the wheels, but the spinning tires (yes, all 4 of them) have hit mud, so I just have to wait for the thaw. We dug the cupcakemobile out of the ice covered mud pit that it was parked in with the help of two sheets of plywood and a floormat.

Sno' stoppin' the sushi!

Just past this ridge, and down one flight of stairs we managed to find some sushi.

stuck

Hey, Happy Nor'easter! It snowed, then it alternated sleet, rain, snow and freezing rain every hour on the hour. We were going to leave the house, but I drove the Subie into the yard instead of out of the yard, so maybe tomorrow. AWD with street tires just doesn't cut it in this crap.

Roadsides

Guidas

Lunch at Guida's, a roadside hot-dog stand established in 1946. I had a cheeseburger, but after watching the grill, I'm going back for a BLT. Or maybe breakfast.

After lunch I went to find Hubbard Park, to see if I could get to Castle Craig. The access road up to the tower is still closed for the season, so I'll check back on a nicer day for a hike, or wait for the road to open. The "castle" was dedicated in 1900, and it sits 1,002 ft. above sea level.

I settled for the ice covered roadside rocks along CT-66.

ice rocks

With this mild winter they've been freezing and thawing and have built up some serious ice. There are also these layers of ice with melt behind them.

ice rocks

Hard to see at 65 mph, but worth pulling over for.

Birthday, suspended

Last night we enjoyed a belated birthday dinner at Tuscany Grill, right down the street. Belated due to

1) having diner dinner plans on my actual birthday, the 24th
2) the restaurant being closed on the 26th, due to a liquor license suspension for serving a minor alcohol. You can't serve a minor booze here in CT of course, but for the time being you can still hand your friend a beer when you pick them up at the airport.

SUSPENDED!

Third time's the charm, as they say. I was graciuosly gifted a gift certificate to Tuscany Grill from Mrs. Cupcake's parents. Mrs. Cupcakes had the puttanesca, and I enjoyed the frutti di mare. For you non-link clickers, both dishes are delicious, but with names that mean "prostitute" and "fruit of the sea", respectively.

Earlier this week, we went to Priya for chaat night. Chaat as in Indian snack foods, not internet or small talk or whathaveyou. The buffet was great, but I ate way too much, finished off with this dessert...

dessert

...which was all very sweet and delicious, but looked very odd, like rice noodles cooked with a highlighter, and tapioca pearls that had somehow had black sesame seeds inserted into each of them. The ping pong ball is a sweet, honey-soaked orb of some dairy-related composition.

Today it was 55° here, so I cracked open one of these.

Hitachino Nest White Ale

It's a very summertime beer. Sadly, I only bought one, and just for the label. Oh, and also the bottlecap.
